Mills and Waters Set For CIK Championship Last Round

11 September 2009

Dual National Champion Matthew Waters and Victorian James Mills are the latest two drivers to confirm they will be lining up for the final round of the 2009 Australian CIK Championship at Ipswich, Queensland next month (October 24/25).

For Waters, who completed the rare feat of securing both the Senior National Light and Heavy Australian Championships at the one event last year, competing in the CIK Championship will be the next step in his flourishing career which started over 12 years ago.

“The CIK Championship has always been the pinnacle of Australian karting in my eyes and it is now even more economically feasible it is more attractive than ever,” said 19 year-old Waters.

“I’m really looking forward to getting on track alongside some of the more recognisable names to test myself against the best in the business.

“I’ve raced the National classes for a number or years and more recently stepped into the Clubman classes, now I’m looking forward to continuing my enjoyment of the sport while running around with the top guys in the sport.”

The Sydney-sider will be joined at Ipswich by fellow CIK debutant James Mills.

Mills returned to the sport last year following a three year break and is more enthused than every about tackling the best drivers in the country.

“When I was a junior the drivers in the CIK Championship were the ones that I always looked up to and I loved the style of racing,” said Mills.

“The rejuvenated CIK Series is something that really excites me and I’m really looking forward to getting on track next month at Ipswich.”

Next month’s event will be used by Mills as a warm-up for an all out assault on the 2010 Championship where he will pair up with his brother Matthew in a two-kart line up for the First Kart Australia team.

The 2009 Australian CIK Championship is being run alongside the Rotax Pro Tour where over 100 drivers are expected to assemble for the five 125cc categories that cater for a variety of ages and weight divisions.

Entering the final round of the Championship Newcastle’s Hayden McBride holds a slender five-point buffer over former ICC Champion Tyson Pearce in the Championship Standings. Simon Roberts is still within striking distance in third place with Damian Radosevic in fourth place.
