Dunlop Signs Up For Queensland Championships
02 June 2010
Dunlop is the naming rights sponsor for next month’s Queensland Karting Championships to be held in Mackay (July 2-4).
It will be the first time that the championships, expected to attract around 300 entries from various parts of the country, have been held at the Mackay venue and Club President Peter Mumford is excited about the event coming to town.
“It is undoubtedly the biggest event we’ve hosted as a club and everyone is really excited and looking forward to the championships,” said Mumford.
“To have such an iconic brand like Dunlop become the naming rights sponsor for the championships is a real feather in our cap and we look forward to putting on a great event for all of our local drivers and interstate visitors.”
Dunlop Kartsport’s Les May is proud to be associated with one of the Blue Ribbon events on the Australian karting scene.
“I’m delighted to be involved with the Mackay Kart Club and take up the opportunity of becoming the naming rights sponsor for the 2010 Championships to continue our support of Australian karting at all levels,” said May.
“Ever since our initial discussions they have been great to deal with and I can't wait to get up to Mackay to be a part of a special event while also taking in some of the sights of the region.”
It is estimated the local economy stands to receive a boost in the vicinity of $300,000 from the championships as the racing drivers, mechanics, teams and associates begin arriving during the last week of June to gain valuable practice for the event beginning on Friday July 2.
With drivers as young as seven, and as old as 50, competing there will be a real family feel about the region with families converging on the region.
